Ben was born in February 2015 and found abandoned when he was around 3 months old. He has been diagnosed with post-operative congenital heart disease (TOF) and cognitive delay.

SPECIAL FOCUS CHILD RELEASED TO THE SHARED LIST

Ben’s adoption report was written when he was 21 months old. At that time he could crawl, sit independently and stand with support. He could grasp nearby toys, tear paper, pick up small objects with his fingers and look for the source of sounds. He could follow moving objects with his eyes and search for a dropped object.

Ben was said to be cooperative with dressing and said to be active and extroverted. He liked to listen to music and play with toys that made sounds. Ben was described as having a ready smile and being fond of listening to music.

Does Ben receive any education or rehabilitation therapy?  He’s receiving special education and rehabilitation therapy now.

How do his motor skills compare to other children his age (walking, running, etc)?  His motor skills are a little delayed compared to his peers. He can now walk by holding onto handrails. He can also move around by standing against the wall. He can walk a few steps by holding hands.

 How do his language skills compare to other children his age? Is he communicating with words?   His language is delayed. He can’t talk yet. But he can understand simple instructions.

 

How does his cognitive or mental ability compare to his peers?  His cognitive and mental ability is delayed. He can’t recognize common objects.

How old was he when he had his first surgery?  He had heart surgery on July 15, 2016.

Do doctors feel he will need further surgery? If so when?   The doctors didn’t think he’ll need further surgery.

Does he tire easily with physical activity or do his lips turn blue?   No.

What are his favorite activities?  He loves to be held by his mama, interact with his mama. He likes to tear paper into pieces, take off his own socks and clothes. He also loves to go out enjoy the scene.

Does he play well with other children?  Yes, he gets along well with other children. He loves to play with them.

Can he follow simple instructions?  He can understand some simple instructions.
