Shawn was born in June 2006. He stayed with a host family in the US for three weeks in January 2015.

Shawn is a curious, lively and outgoing 8 year old boy who just spent several weeks with a  family who describes him as “awesome” and “truly joyful.”  His hosts report he is obedient, very intelligent, and doesn’t seem to have any developmental delays.  He observes others and learns very quickly, including figuring out how to work a smart phone and complicated electronics. During his US visit, Shawn loved playing with Legos, helping to set and clear the dinner table, and playing with the family’s dog.  He has good eye hand coordination and interacts with people and animals appropriately.  He presents as happy, curious and caring.   His Chinese letters are very finely formed, and he has good fine motor skills.  He adapts easily to new situations, loves music and singing, has a great sense of humor, and keeps himself occupied. All his teachers in China like him, he gets along well with classmates, and he always wants to help others. His school performance is good. Though he has a slight speech impediment, that doesn’t prevent him from communicating with others. He likes TV, cartoons, and playing with his many friends. 

Shawn was born with imperforate anus and had surgery to correct this in infancy. He does not currently have bowel control, but US doctors say he has excellent prospects for full remediation with further treatment here and a high fiber diet.  Shawn also was born with just one kidney and has mild scoliosis which doesn’t seem to hold him back at all.
