Charlie

Charlie was born May 2009 and found abandoned at 2 months old with a scar on his upper right abdomen that indicates a possible surgery. The orphanage does not know what surgery was completed or why. He has been diagnosed with PKU and delayed intellectual and motor development, and is not currently receiving a special PKU diet.

Charlie has been living with a foster family since September of 2015, which has helped him improve developmentally. His foster parents describe him as extroverted and sometimes naughty. Charlie likes to be cuddled by his foster mom and likes to eat when he’s upset. When he becomes emotional, Charlie’s arms will shake.

He can walk, run, and jump, but is physically weak. Intellectually, Charlie is at the level of an average 2 to 3 year old child. He does not attend school and he doesn’t speak. Charlie has good self-care ability. He is able to eat and go to the bathroom on his own.

The orphanage suspects an additional diagnosis of cerebral palsy, but this has not been tested and it may be a symptom of his PKU. Charlie has areas on his head where his hair doesn’t grow well, though it is reported that growth in these spots has begun recently.
